The cats and I were just getting settled for the night when they suddenly leapt off the bed and made a dash for their sightseeing perch on the ironing board by the bedroom window. What garnered their interest? The neighborhood raccoon perched on the window ledge (which is on the second floor, BTW). I tapped the window. He stopped scratching behind his ear, gave me a disgusted look, and then wandered off onto the roof — upwards. So, I ponder… where does the raccoon go when he climbs on my roof?

I’ve never even seen our attic, but I’m sure I’d hear the critter if it was living there. We once had squirrels tunnel in through the eaves and nest between the first and second floors, and you could definitely hear them skitter around in the ceiling. The landlord “Borg”-ed the house, and even though it took several tries to get enough armor on the house, we’ve been squirrel-free ever since.
