Too damn close to home…

I am really, really, really glad I changed my mind about going shopping at Ward Parkway Mall this afternoon. I had intended to go to T.J. Maxx and Target after I got my car washed, but at the last minute decided just to go get groceries and head home. Not very much later, the mall became “one big crime scene” following a shooting spree that left three dead, including the shooter. Details. The time line would have put me in that parking lot at exactly the wrong time. That’s “my” mall, darn it, and too freakin’ close to home.

Quite — and the shooting was supposedly at the Starbucks near Maxx, too.

Wow. I’m glad you didn’t go too. Unnerving to the extreme.

Bannister road is a strangely familiar name. Is there a mall by that name that way? (I used to live in Harrisonville and Belton, MO)

Yes, but it closed. Over half the malls around KC have collapsed, and Bannister was the latest.

Thanks, Kosa. Yes, you’re thinking of Bannister Mall, which is closing at the end of May for lack of interest. Ward Parkway Mall is a couple of miles west and about 10 blocks north of it.

It’s the way of things. I haven’t been in the K.C. MO area for over 20 years, so I’d be surprised if anything I remember was still operating. Like that little sandwich shop across from the Main Library. I have fond memories of that place during summer vacation.

The satellite views of Belton/Richards Gebauer that I find on Google Earth are hopelessly different from my memory, too. *sigh*

HOw did they get that? And of course it’s to the rare instance when I use strong language.

Isn’t there a special search engine for web logs?
