Summer’s over…

Another Labor Day Weekend — and another summer — gone and done. I spent the weekend building web sites while waiting for WorldCon voting results, visiting with friends, shopping, and painting.

Building Web Sites …
As most of you know, Montreal won the bid to host WorldCon 2009. I don’t want to rehash or discuss that here. However, I was part of the KC2009 bid web team, and I had to have three versions of our web site ready to roll by Saturday morning: one to post if we lost, one to post immediately if we won, and the bones of a more robust winner site that we could post as soon as the rest of the team geeked it out with databases and online registration capabilities and what not. Ah well. It was good practice. (Now I just need to spend some time updating my own web site. Alas, it has been way too long.)

Visiting With Friends …
The aforementioned geek team and assorted spouses and significant others gathered on Saturday. Since we didn’t have to geek-out the web site as originally planned, a LAN party broke out. Much fabulous food was eaten, computer guts were mucked with, and a fair bit of lounging and gabbing ensued.

Shopping …
I have new clothes for fall and to wear to my professional organization’s conference later this month. For about $150 dollars total, I have essentially an entire new fall wardrobe: a replacement for my “throw it in the suitcase, wear it anytime, anywhere” dress, four pairs of pants, a skirt, two tops, a sweater set, and a new pair of yoga pants. I love clearance racks and T.J. Maxx.

Painting …
Honestly, I haven’t committed art since before Memorial Day. So … this weekend I got the old paintbrushes out and dabbled. This resulted in nothing SF/F-ional… just vegetables and silly cats. I’ll scan them and post them to my art blog soon, which I’ve also neglected since before Memorial Day. I’ve set up my Etsy store but haven’t added any art to it. I need to get that done soon, too. Maybe tonight. Maybe not. (Hmmm…. LJ is giving me weirdness when I try to link out, so I need to figure out what I’m doing wrong…)

Well maybe you can have art done for Daranacon or World Horror. There is always a good side to having your time back.

    Aw, that’s so nice!

Thanks for the plug, Allison! It’s always good to hear from my sister goddess (who shares responsibility for those quirky out-of-season weather phenomena. -cathy
