In mid-September,
and I will be traveling to Southeastern Idaho and would like to do some sightseeing while we’re there. We have a late afternoon to drive between Salt Lake City and Idaho Falls, and then we have an entire day to explore Idaho Falls and the surrounding area before our first conference meeting begins. My question to the LJ hive mind: what should we see?

August 25, 2008 at 1:44pmWow. I would have thought you’d have had some suggestions by now. I’ve never been there, so can offer no insights.

August 26, 2008 at 2:32pmI was hoping somebody would respond, but alas, nothing. I’ve been poking around on the web and in guidebooks… I’m going to try to visit Lava Hot Springs for a soak, and perhaps spend the day-trip moseying around Grand Teton National Forest unless my traveling companion has a better suggestion.

August 26, 2008 at 8:49pmGrand Tetons and Jackson Hole, maybe (Yellowstone might be overwhelmingly crowded, but I imagine the others won’t be empty, either).
I generally grab the National Park map for such things, and see what’s around. There’s another couple parks on the Idaho side, too.

August 26, 2008 at 9:05pmThat’s pretty much what I’m thinking. I just haven’t figured out it a day-trip from Idaho Falls to Grand Tetons To Yellowstone and back is doable. I’ll have to do all the driving, and I’m only good for 2 to 3 hours at time — I get really stiff.
