When I saw Mayhem trot through the living room with his open collar dangly limply in his mouth like a dead snake for the second time in less than 30 minutes, I gave up. It took him less than 48 hours to figure it out. The furry brats are again running about nekkid and shackle free. The little escape artist’s technique? It’s a press-and-pull safety collar. Mayhem wiggles it with his paws until he gets the clasp in his mouth. He then bites down on it while using his paws and neck for leverage to pull it apart. He also opens doors and kitchen drawers. We are soooo screwed.

March 15, 2007 at 9:09pmHow about a body harness? It would not have to be snap and release because it would not strangle him if it got caught on something.

March 16, 2007 at 5:20pmI don’t necessarily want to restrain him. I just want an “if found, please call” number on him.

March 16, 2007 at 7:39pmIt might work to keep tags on where a collar is evidently out. Restraint is not necessarily in the picture.

Sigh. Please don’t give them any ideas. (Now you know why I ask you to check in on them when I’m gone for more than 24 hours.) On the other hand, I think the little bugger has forgiven me. The next morning, he wrapped himself around my head and purred in my ear for a while before the alarm went off.
